Tasting notes:
The colour is deep orange amber with floral aromas of crushed rose petal, lavender and orange blossom. The palate has rich raisins with subtle oak and great length.
About the wine:
The great fortified wines and full flavoured table wines for which the region is renowned are grown on a band of loam on the lower slopes of the gentle local hills. This snakes its way around the centre and extends to the east, west and south of the township of Rutherglen.
Fruit is allowed to ripen naturally before a brief fermentation and fortification with high strength neutral spirit. The wines are then aged in large oak casks. A portion of several years is blended to create a ‘complete’ wine.
About the producer:
Stanton & Killeen like to say they're 141 years young. The best 30 acres from their fertile farmlands have been selected for the cultivation of over 16 varieties, including some rare and unusual Portuguese grapes. S&K is internationally recognised for luscious fortifieds and rich reds, with winemaking knowledge passed down over seven generations.
Food match:
The winemakers literature is quite specific, matching this Muscat with 'Rose infused baklava or a Turkish delight tart with chocolate pastry' I'd go further and put it with anything sweet, chocolatey or even better, a good comprehensive cheeseboard.
