Tasting notes:

Delicate pale onion skin in colour with strawberry fruit aromas and an appealing garrigue-spiked nose. The palate is rounded with red fruit and rosehip characters backed by gentle spices and acidity. The finish is long, silky and complex with a touch of white pepper.

About the wine:

The Rimauresq "Terroir" is recognised through its Cru Classé status. The vineyards cover 57 hectares, with an average vine age of 40 years old, the oldest planted in 1930.

The North-'west facing vineyards lare 35km from the sea, at an altitude of between 140m to 190m. The vineyards sit on crystaline rock with sand and gravelly soils. The vines benefit from the cooling Mistral wind and the sheltering effects of the Maures Massif foothils. These factors allow the grapes a longer ripening period and better fruit development in the weeks prior to harvest.

At harvest time, a combination of manual and mechanical methods are used during the early mornings to benefit from the lower temperatures.

Grapes are then crushed, de-stemmed and undergo maceration on their skins for several hours do impart the delicate colours from the skins, before pressing and seperation of the free run juices. Subsequently the juice is is cold stabilized prior to cold fermentation for 2-3 weeks.

After fermentation the wines are left on their lees for 3 weeks with regular batonnage to develop the full aromatic qualities of the wine.

The wines do not undergo malolactic fermentation, preserving the acidity, then a period of cold stabilization before filtering and bottling. There is no contact with oak.

About the producer:

Rimauresq, in the heart of the Provence wine region midway between Nice and Marseille, takes its name from the "Real Mauresque" river flowing through the vineyards. Rimauresq is one of only a handful of Côtes de Provence vineyards awarded Cru Classe status in 1956.

The vineyards are owned by the Wemyss Familly, and emply Head winemaker Pierre Duffont and his team to produce these elegan and award winning wines.
