Tasting notes:
Jean shows a deep intense purple color, with garnet highlights. On the nose it has a touch of liquorice and spice and mineral quality, with a nice maturity of blackberry and blueberry. The mouth is round with a pleasant sweetness. The balance is perfect. Easy access, Jean is full of freshness and leaves us with a very elegant finish.
About the wine:
The vineyards are mainly planted on granite slopes located around Lyon, with East & Southeast exposures. Their roots are firmly anchored in granitic igneous rocks formed more than 320 million years ago, in the foothills of the Massif Central Hercynian. Partially hand harvested.
The grapes are sorted in the vineyard and partially de-stemmed. Traditional vinification in temperature regulated vats between 20 and 30°C. Long maceration to gently extract the polyphenolic material in stainless steel and cement vats. Maturation on the fine lees and malolactic fermentation during aging. Storage tank temperature controlled and inert gas used to preserve the aromatic qualities of the Gamay grape. Bottling with strict control of dissolved oxygen. Diam Closures to maintain the purity of the wine.
About the producer:
Jean Loron was born in Chénas in 1711. He developed his business as a wine grower by vinifying specific “climats” of Beaujolais and of Bourgogne. In 1821 his grandson Jean-Marie Loron developed the estate further and began a wine merchant business. His son Jacques succeeded him and merged his business with that of his father-in-law Charlet in 1852.
The Charlet family, who had been wine merchants in Saint-Amour and Juliénas in the 18th century, also owned the “Clos des Billards” at Saint-Amour. Nowadays the business is managed by the eighth generation of the family. The quality and reliability of their wines are internationally renowned, their strong image of durability and longevity contributing to their excellent reputation.
Maison Jean Loron is the only wine merchant to specialise (80%) in Beaujolais and Bourgogne wines, exporting them throughout the world. For many years, Maison Jean Loron have had an exceptional reputation thanks to their winemaking savoir-faire.
