Tasting notes:
Aromas of intense ripe damson and black cherry with a hint of spice. Ripe and generous on the palate, robust and full-flavoured with intense plum and sour cherry fruit, balanced by tangy, juicy acidity.
About the wine:
The Barbera grapes are sourced from 6 hectares of vines on south east and west facing slopes, on the estate of Il Cascinone in the Monferrato hills of Piemonte.
While these grapes were planted in 2000, other grapes from younger vines are also included in the blend. After a careful harvest, pressing and fermentation, the wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barriques, of which 10-15% is new oak.
About the producer:
This exceptional estate in the Monferrato hills was bought by Araldica in 1999. After 15 years of replanting, 60 hectares of the 102 have now been reclaimed and are in full production.
The warmer, southwest facing slopes are used to grow Barbera, Merlot and Cabernet while those facing northeast give fresher growing conditions, ideal for aromatic varietals such as Brachetto and Moscato as well as Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir.
The 'Il Cascinone' range is produced with grapes sourced from Araldica’s most prized vineyards, both on the estate itself and from other selected sites. Il Cascinone aim to make expressive, yet uncomplicated wines from good quality grapes.
