Tasting notes:

The Henri Darnat Puligny-Montrachet is a lovely straw yellow with a touch of a golden hue.

The nose is everything one wants from a fine white Burgundy. Fine lemon flesh and peel ,with richer touches of tropical fruit, slight vanilla, floral and nutty touches, with a firm minerality.

The palate is equally impressive, with amazing structure. The acidity is well balanced with rich yellow fruits, lemon, creamier peach and lovely, lingering touches of nuttiness and vanilla. The finish is very long lived, with a refreshing yet richly satisfying end.

About the wine:

The grapes for this wine come from vineyards within the world famous Puligny-Montrachet in the Cote d'Or, Burgundy. Throughout the growing season great care is taken to produce only the finest fruit, ready for harvest at the optimal level of ripeness.

After harvest, gentle pressing and fermentation, the wine undergoes an extended period of ageing in oak barrels, 50% of which are new French oak.

About the producer:

Henri Darnat comes from a long line of winemakers taking over the reins of his father’s estate 20 years ago along with his siblings, and has run it alone since 1999.

Henri Darnat’s initial approach followed winemaking methods that had been passed down through his family from generation to generation, however a perfectionist at heart and experimental in spirit, Henri soon started to make changes to his vineyards and winemaking methods, in order to maximise quality and develop his own unique style.

Part of this saw Henri convert to organic methods in the vineyard, a process which has evolved progressively since 2004, in the belief that wines produced organically taste purer and have a greater natural balance and longevity. In the winery too, Henri eschews chemicals, using only natural products to treat his wines.
